Q: Can I use a flat band clamp on a stepped (lap) joint?
A: No. A lap joint has two different pipe diameters, so a flat band contacts unevenly and the clamping force is unstable. Use a lap joint (stepped) band clamp, which is shaped to cover that step. A flat band clamp is for same-diameter butt joints, which need a sleeve-style clamp over both pipe ends.

Q: What is the difference between U-bolt, band and V-band clamps? When should each not be used?
A: U-bolt clamps are a cost-effective option, but their clamping force is more concentrated and may leave marks on the pipe. Band clamps distribute the force over a wider area, helping reduce pipe deformation. V-band clamps provide even circumferential clamping and are convenient for joints that need to be removed frequently. V-band clamps require compatible flanges.

Q: What is the difference between a lap joint clamp and a butt joint clamp?
A:  A lap joint has one pipe inserted into the other; a butt joint joins two pipes of the same diameter end to end. They are not interchangeable.
    4
Q: What do band width, band thickness and rolled edges do?
A: A wider or thicker band can provide stronger and more even clamping force. Rolled edges help improve rigidity and protect the pipe surface. The right combination depends on the pipe size, joint type and application.

Q: What dimensions do you need to quote, and what about tolerance?
A: Please provide the pipe outside diameter (OD), clamp type, width and quantity. For custom or special applications, a drawing, photo or sample can help us confirm the dimensions and tolerances.
